1850 CHECKED PLAID SILK TAFFETA DAY DRESS, HOUSE DRESS An original 1850 patterned plaid silk taffeta day dress with a brown background with green and light mauve stripes forming a plaid, consisting of criss-crossed, horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colors. The gown is fitted through the back waistline and gently flairs as it reaches the floor, and the back has a train. The front and back are accented with black chantilly lace and satin ribbons. The bodice is lined with a dark black and brown plaid silk taffeta, and has a front center hook and eye hidden closure and with long slender curved fitted sleeves ending with a fancy black velvet cuff with a beaded mesh lace accent on each cuff. Bodice has a black velvet collar with bead mesh accents at neck line. The skirt is lined with a black and white silk lining and has a outer gathered ruffle at hemline. Condition: The house dress is in fair condition. There is underarm discoloration as well as splitting. Few open seams in back . Some period patch repairs. Small holes scattered about. Years ago a orange material was sewn into underarm.
