Vintage black velvet opera coat or evening jacket dating from the 1930s-40s. It features distinctive ornate corded knots or passementerie closures at the collar. These decorative elements are typical of “Poiret style” or Art Deco-influenced evening wear from that era. It has a relaxed, open front design with a mid-length cut, common for opera cloaks and “duster” style jackets. Overall condition is remarkable for the age. There is one rough spot in the velvet on the upper right side below the corded knot. It is hardly noticeable unless you are looking for it, the last picture makes it look more noticeable than it actually is.
