Antique 18th Century, Circa late 1700's to early 1800's, Woman's Gold Hat Coif Hand Painted Trim European For the 18th century woman, this kind of hat was an icon of wealth. This model was worn on special occasions with the woman's hair tucked underneath. This handmade hat has a soft linen interior fabric that fit snuggly on the head. The exterior is embellished with intricate, lace like embroidery stitching with metal threads colored gold. It is decorated with clear glass beads, gold coils and sequins. The trim is hand painted. It consists of two panels sewn together. The stand is not included with the purchase of this hat. Please see photos for details. More photos available upon request. Condition: This coif is in fairly good condition considering the fact that it is over 200 years old.The coif was "let out" at the main seam at the bottom of the back to enlarge it. It is now fraying at that junction.The interior is stained, it can be spot cleaned with a mild soap.The metal threads are tarnished.Some beads and embroidery stitching may be missing.
