Vtg 40s Floral Print Barbette Dress Bemberg Cold Rayon Purple Bust 39” Waist 29”

This is an adorable late 1940s cold rayon dress made by Barbette. The fabric is the very high-quality “Bemberg Rayon,” in an abstract floral print with shades of purple, blue, green, black, and white, with the ground appearing gray. It has an appealing impressionistic look. The dress features short, lightly gathered sleeves, a side metal zipper made by Crown, 4 pretty plastic buttons with shiny faceted centers doing up the front (buttons are from the waist up only), a shawl collar, a pleated skirt, and bust pleats for fullness. The fabric is lightweight and slightly sheer. The dress is a nice medium size and fits easily on the size 8 dress form (bust 35.5” waist 26.5” hips 36.5”) with room to spare - see pictures for measurements. Always add in a few inches for ease! Although there are some flaws, these are generally not super noticeable, due to the intricate print. I’ve shown them in the pictures. There are two spots on the front of the dress, although the pleats and the print camouflage them quite well. The dress has had its hem altered (taken out), and there is a shot showing the hand hemming job. Additionally, someone patched a small hole near the waist line with a light backing fabric, and I’ve shown a picture of the patch from the inside of the dress and from the outside. You can’t see it very well, but I imagine that spot will be a bit more fragile. There are also slight underarm stains, hidden pretty well by the print, seen in the final photos. Any questions please ask.
