Antique 18th Century, Circa late 1700's to early 1800's. Woman's Hat Coif, Floral Design, European. For the 18th century woman, these kind of hats were an icon of wealth. This model was worn on special occasions with the woman's hair tucked underneath. This handmade hat has a soft linen interior fabric and fit snuggly on the head, held at the neck with a ribbon. The exterior is embellished with intricate, lace like embroidery stitching with metal threads colored gold on top of fabric with silver colored thread. It is decorated with pink/red and clear glass beads, colored foil, gold coils, leaves and sequins. It consists of two panels sewn together. The stand is not included with the purchase of this hat. Condition: This coif is in fairly good condition considering the fact that it is over 200 years old.Some of the silver threads at the back of the hat are frayed.The interior is stained, it can be spot cleaned with a mild soap.The metal threads are tarnished.Some beads and embroidery stitching may be missing. Please see the photos for details.
